Backup and Restore

LockYit provides a robust backup and restore system to help you secure and manage your vault data. Local backups ensure that your data remains private and secure even when stored outside the application.

Creating a Backup​

Creating a local backup ensures that you have a secure copy of your vault items in case of device loss, accidental app deletion, or other unforeseen events.

  1. Go to Settings → Backups
  2. Tap Create Local Backup
  3. Your vault data will be encrypted and saved locally on your device
  4. A dialog will appear asking if you want to export the backup file - tap Yes to save it to a location of your choice

Save the exported backup file to a cloud storage service or an external drive. This is especially useful if you accidentally uninstall the app or lose your device, as you can restore from that file even after a fresh install.

Local backups are stored in a protected area managed by the app. They are not visible in your device's file browser - use the Local Backups screen inside the app to manage them.

Viewing Local Backups​

  1. Go to Settings → Backups
  2. Tap Local Backups
  3. A list of your stored backups is shown, including their creation dates and file sizes
  4. Tap any backup to restore from it, or use the selection controls to export or delete entries

You can export any saved backup to a folder on your device from this screen. Once downloaded, move that file to a separate device - such as another computer, a USB drive, or a trusted external storage location. Keeping a copy off your primary device means you can still recover your vault even if that device is lost, damaged, or reset.

Restoring a Backup​

  1. Go to Settings → Backups
  2. Tap Restore from Backup
  3. Select one of the backups shown in the list, or tap Pick backup file to choose a file you previously saved to your device
  4. Confirm the restore when prompted
  5. The app will restart and your restored data will be fully applied to your vault

Restoring a backup will overwrite your current vault data. Create a new backup of your current state before proceeding with a restoration.
