Quick Start Guide

Get up and running with LockYit in just 5 minutes.

Step 1: Create Your Account​

When you first open LockYit, you'll see the Create Account screen.

  1. Enter your email address
  2. Enter your master password
    • This is the only password you'll need to remember
    • Use at least 12 characters with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols
  3. Confirm your password
  4. Accept the Terms of Service
  5. Tap Create Account
Master Password Tips
  • Choose something memorable but unique to you
  • Consider using a passphrase: correct-horse-battery-staple
  • Never share your master password with anyone

After creating your account, LockYit will take you through a few screens to familiarise you with the app features.

Once done, you should generate a Recovery Key.

  1. Go to Settings → Account
  2. Tap Recovery Kit
  3. Follow the instructions to generate and save your recovery key
    • Tap on Download Recovery Kit to save a PDF
    • Alternatively, you can copy the recovery key to your clipboard
  4. Store this file in a safe place (USB drive, printed copy, etc.). You'll need this key if you forget your master password.
  5. Tap I've saved my recovery key in a safe place to confirm you've saved it.
  6. Tap Save Recovery Key in Account to save it to your account. If you do not do this, you will not be able to recover your account if you forget your master password.
Important

Going through all the steps given above is mandatory for the creation of your recovery key. Otherwise the recovery key will not be registered in your account, and you will not be able to recover your account if you forget your master password.

Step 3: Set Up Biometrics (Optional)​

If your device supports biometric authentication, and you have enabled it on your device, LockYit can use your device's biometric sensors for faster unlocking.

  1. Go to Settings → Security
  2. Tap Biometric Unlock
  3. Enter your master password
  4. Follow your device's instructions to authenticate with your biometric sensor
  5. Now you can unlock LockYit with just a glance or a touch

Step 4: Add Your First Item​

  1. Tap the + Add Item button at the bottom of the screen
  2. Select an item type (e.g. Password). TIP: You can search for the item type you want to add.
  3. Fill in the details:
    • Name: e.g. "Netflix"
    • Website: e.g. "https://www.netflix.com"
    • Username: your email or username
    • Password: your password (or use Generate to create a strong one)
    • Recovery Codes: Optional to add any recovery codes provided by the website, e.g. "1234567890, AB1234, CD5678, EF9012"
    • Notes: Optional to add any notes, e.g. "My own account"
  4. Tap Save to add the item to your vault.
