Quick Start Guide

Get up and running with LockYit in just 5 minutes.

Step 1: Create Your Account​

When you first open LockYit, you'll see the Create Account screen.

  1. Enter your email address
  2. Enter your master password
    • This is the only password you'll need to remember
    • Use at least 12 characters with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols
  3. Confirm your password
  4. Tick the box to confirm you are 16 or older and accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy
  5. Tap Create Account

Already have an account? Tap Login next to Already have an account? instead. See Logging In on a New Device.

Master Password Tips
  • Choose something memorable but unique to you
  • Consider using a passphrase: correct-horse-battery-staple
  • Never share your master password with anyone

Step 2: Quick Setup​

After you create your account and verify your email, LockYit takes you through a short Quick Setup. Each step turns something on:

  1. Save Your Recovery Key: copy it or tap Download PDF, store it somewhere safe, tick I have saved my recovery key in a safe place, and tap Continue. This is the only way back into your vault if you forget your master password, so this step can't be skipped.
  2. Back Up Your Vault: tap Choose Folder to keep your encrypted backups on a USB drive, another disk, a network folder or a cloud folder, or Keep on This Device.
  3. Unlock with Face ID (or Touch ID, Fingerprint or Windows Hello): tap Turn On Face ID to open LockYit without typing your master password every time, or Not Now. This step only appears on devices that support it.
  4. You're All Set: tap Go to My Vault.
Keep Your Recovery Key Safe

Without your recovery key, there is no way to recover access to your vault if you forget your master password.

Step 3: Check Your Biometric Unlock (Optional)​

If you chose Not Now during setup, you can turn on biometric unlock later:

  1. Go to Settings → Security
  2. Tap Biometric Unlock
  3. Enter your master password
  4. Follow your device's instructions to authenticate with your biometric sensor
  5. Now you can unlock LockYit with just a glance or a touch. LockYit asks for it automatically each time you open or unlock the app.

Step 4: Add Your First Item​

  1. Tap the + Add Item button at the bottom of the screen
  2. Select an item type (e.g. Password). TIP: You can search for the item type you want to add.
  3. Fill in the details:
    • Name: e.g. "Netflix"
    • Website: e.g. "https://www.netflix.com"
    • Username: your email or username
    • Password: your password (or use Generate to create a strong one)
    • Recovery Codes: Optional to add any recovery codes provided by the website, e.g. "1234567890, AB1234, CD5678, EF9012"
    • Notes: Optional to add any notes, e.g. "My own account"
  4. Tap Save to add the item to your vault.
