Creating Your Account

Setting up your LockYit account is the first step to securing your digital life. Here's a detailed walkthrough.

Registration Process​

1. Open LockYit​

When you first launch LockYit, you'll see the Create Account screen with an option to login, if you already have an account.

The Already Have an Account? Login option is for existing users installing on a new device.

2. Enter Your Email​

Enter a valid email address. This will be used for:

  • Account identification
  • Password recovery (in combination with your recovery key)

3. Enter Your Master Password​

Your master password is the single key that unlocks your entire vault.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 8 characters (we recommend 12+)
  • Mix of uppercase and lowercase letters
  • Include numbers and special characters

Best Practices:

  • Use a passphrase - e.g., sunny-beach-umbrella-2024!
  • Avoid personal information like birthdays or pet names
  • Don't reuse passwords from other accounts
  • Consider using a memorable sentence: ILovedParis@Summer2019!

4. Confirm Your Password​

Re-enter your master password to confirm it. This ensures you typed it correctly.

5. Accept Terms of Service​

Review and accept the Terms of Service, and the Privacy Policy to proceed.

6. Complete Registration​

Tap Create Account. LockYit will:

  1. Generate your encryption keys locally
  2. Set up your secure vault
  3. Take you through a few screens to familiarise you with the app features.
  4. Show you your home screen.

After Registration​

Save Your Recovery Key​

Immediately after registration, you'll should create and save your Recovery Key.

This is a PDF document containing a special code that allows you to recover access to your account if you forget your master password.

  1. Go to Settings → Account
  2. Tap Recovery Kit
  3. Follow the instructions to generate and save your recovery key
    • Tap on Download Recovery Kit to save a PDF
    • Alternatively, you can copy the recovery key to your clipboard
  4. Store this file in a safe place (USB drive, printed copy, etc.). You'll need this key if you forget your master password.
  5. Tap I've saved my recovery key in a safe place to confirm you've saved it.
  6. Tap Save Recovery Key in Account to save it to your account. If you do not do this, you will not be able to recover your account if you forget your master password.
Important

Going through all the steps given above is mandatory for the creation of your recovery key. Otherwise the recovery key will not be registered in your account, and you will not be able to recover your account if you forget your master password.

Never Lose Your Recovery Key

Without your recovery key, there is no way to recover access to your vault.

Your data is encrypted on your device and we cannot decrypt it. You can only access your vault by using your master password, or recover access to your vault by using your recovery key, if you have successfully created one using the steps outlined above.

Enable Biometrics​

If your device supports biometric authentication, and you have enabled it on your device, LockYit can use your device's biometric sensors for faster unlocking.

Biometric unlocking is supported on the following devices that have it.

  • Face ID (iPhone, iPad)
  • Touch ID (Mac, older iPhones)
  • Fingerprint or Face (Android)
  • Windows Hello (Windows)

This allows you to unlock LockYit without typing your master password every time.

To enable biometric unlocking follow the steps below.

  1. Go to Settings → Security
  2. Tap Biometric Unlock
  3. Enter your master password
  4. Follow your device's instructions to authenticate with your biometric sensor
  5. Now you can unlock LockYit with just a glance or a touch
