Changing Your Password
You can change your master password at any time from within the app.
The app needs to be online and signed in to your account to change your password.
Ensure your device is connected to the internet before changing your password.
How to Change Your Password
- Open Settings - Go to Settings
- Navigate to Account section
- Tap Change Password
- Enter your Current Password
- Enter your New Master Password
- Confirm your New Password
- Tap Change
After changing your password, your vault data does not need to be re-encrypted. LockYit uses advanced key wrapping technology that allows password changes without touching your encrypted data.
Password Requirements
Your new password should:
- Be at least 8 characters (12+ recommended)
- Include uppercase and lowercase letters
- Include numbers and special characters
- Be different from your previous password
After Changing Your Password
Update Your Recovery Key
When you change your password, your recovery key remains valid. However, we recommend downloading a fresh Recovery Kit after any password change.
Discard any old recovery kit files after downloading a new one to prevent confusion.
Re-authenticate Biometrics
If you have biometric unlock enabled, you may need to re-authenticate:
- Lock the app
- Unlock with your new password
- The biometric will update automatically
Troubleshooting
Invalid password. Please try again.
If you get this error.
- Double-check that you're entering your current password, not the new one
- Check for typos and Caps Lock
- If you've truly forgotten your password, use Account Recovery
Password Doesn't Match
If confirmation fails:
- Make sure both password fields match exactly
- Watch for accidental spaces at the end
- Check for typos and Caps Lock
