Status, Menus and Shortcuts
LockYit 1.2 shows whether your vault is synced and backed up wherever you are in the app, and gives you faster ways to reach any action: a command palette, keyboard shortcuts and a full menu bar on computers, and one-tap status and appearance buttons on phones and tablets.
Status at a glance
On a computer: the status bar
On macOS, Windows and Linux, a status bar runs along the bottom of the window. From left to right it shows:
| Part | Shows | Click it to |
|---|---|---|
| Commands ⌘K | The command palette shortcut | Open the command palette |
| Items | How many items are in your vault | - |
| Sync | For example Synced 5m ago · 2 of 3 online, Syncing..., Re-pair needed, No devices paired or Sync off | Open the Sync panel |
| Backup | For example Backed up 5m ago, Backup pending, Backing up..., Backup waiting for folder, Backup failed or Backup off | Open the Backup panel |
| Appearance (palette icon) | - | Open the Appearance panel |
| Lock (padlock icon) | - | Lock your vault |
The Sync and Backup labels change colour when something needs you: a waiting backup folder shows in a softer accent colour, and a problem such as Re-pair needed or Backup failed shows in the error colour.
On a phone or tablet: the status buttons
Phones and tablets have no status bar. Instead, the Home title bar has two status buttons, Sync and Backup. Each icon is muted while all is well, changes colour when it needs attention, and the sync icon turns while a sync is running. Tap one to open its panel: in a sheet from the bottom on a phone, or in a popover on a tablet.
The menu drawer also shows a one-line summary at the top, for example Synced 2m ago · 1 of 2 online · Backed up 1h ago.
The Sync panel
The Sync panel lists your paired devices under My Devices and the people you share with under Shared With, each with whether it is online and when it last synced. Sync syncs with everyone now, and Open Local Sync opens the full Local Sync screen.
If you haven't paired another device yet, the panel explains why you might want to, with an Add device button that starts pairing.
The Backup panel
The Backup panel shows the Automatic Backup status, the last and next backup, and the backup location. Back Up Now makes a backup now and shows its progress, then the result until you tap OK. Backups opens the Backups screen.
Appearance panel
The Appearance panel puts the three most-changed appearance settings one tap away:
- Theme: System, Light or Dark
- Primary Color: eight preset colours, or More Colours for any colour
- Items: Grid View or List View
Changes apply straight away. Open it from the palette icon in the status bar on a computer, or the palette button in the Home title bar on a phone or tablet. Everything else, such as fonts, text size and corner style, stays in Settings → Appearance.
Command palette
On a computer, press ⌘K on a Mac or Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux (or click Commands in the status bar) to open the command palette. It lists every action in LockYit, from Add Item and Sync to switching theme, going to a section, backing up or checking your recovery key.
Start typing to narrow the list. Use the arrow keys to move, Enter to run the highlighted action, and Esc to close.
Keyboard shortcuts
These work anywhere in the main window while your vault is unlocked. On Windows and Linux, use Ctrl instead of ⌘.
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| ⌘K | Open the command palette |
| ⌘N | Add Item |
| ⇧⌘S | Sync |
| ⌘L | Lock vault |
| ⇧⌘B | Back Up Now |
| ⇧⌘G | Password Generator |
| ⇧⌘L | Switch between light and dark theme |
| ⇧⌘V | Switch between grid and list view |
| ⌘1 to ⌘5 | Go to Home, Notes, Tasks, OTP Codes, Local Sync |
| ⌘, | Settings |
Menu bar
On a computer, LockYit has a full menu bar: the Mac menu bar at the top of the screen, or a menu bar across the top of the window on Windows and Linux. It has the same actions as the command palette, and almost every setting:
- File: Add Item, Import, Export, Lock vault
- View: every appearance setting, including theme, colour, grid or list, border style, font, app scale and app title
- Go: each section, and Settings
- Backup: Back Up Now, Backups
- Tools: Sync, Check Recovery Key, Password Generator, and maintenance tools
- Settings: every other setting, by category, as on the Settings screen
Simple choices, such as the theme or the auto-lock time, apply straight from the menu with a tick next to the current one. Entries ending in ... open that one setting in Settings.
Tools menu
The Tools menu is still there too: on the navigation rail on a computer, and behind the wrench icon on phones and tablets.
