Tools Menu

The Tools menu gathers the actions that are not tied to any one item or screen: backing up, importing and exporting, generating a password, checking your recovery key, and a few maintenance tools. Everything in it is available from wherever you are in the app, so none of these tasks needs a trip through Settings.

The menu holds the same entries on every platform, grouped under headings. Only where it lives changes.

Where to Find It​

Desktop​

On desktop, Tools sits near the bottom of the left navigation rail, below the main destinations (Home, Notes, Tasks, OTP Codes, Local Sync) and Settings.

Click Tools to open the menu beside the rail. The button stays highlighted while the menu is open and for as long as the action you chose is still running, so a long import or backup is always visibly attributed to the button that started it.

On a short window the rail switches to a compact icons-only form. Tools becomes a wrench icon with a tooltip; the menu itself is unchanged.

Everything in the Tools menu is also in the menu bar and the command palette, and some entries have keyboard shortcuts, shown beside them in the menu.

Phones and Tablets​

On phones and tablets, Tools is the wrench icon in the top app bar, on the right-hand side. Tap it to open the menu.

The icon appears on the main screens. It is hidden on screens that have their own actions in that position, such as an open item.

Backup & Restore​

  • Back Up Now - makes a backup now, in your backup folder or, until you choose one, on this device.
  • Backups - opens the Backups screen, where you choose where Automatic Backup keeps your backups, and restore or download backups.

Import & Export​

  • Import - pick a .csv, .zip, .txt or .kdbx file and LockYit works out how to read it: a LockYit export restores directly, a recognized password manager export is matched automatically, and anything else opens the column mapping editor.
  • Export - writes your vault to a file. The export is not encrypted, so LockYit shows a security warning first.

Security​

  • Check Recovery Key - confirms the recovery key you saved still matches your account, before you ever need it. It is read-only: it never displays your key and never changes anything. See Check Your Recovery Key.
  • Password Generator - opens the password generator on its own, without having to be editing an item. See Password Generator.

Maintenance​

  • Refresh search data - rebuilds the search index if search results look wrong.
  • Database Analytics - shows counts of what is stored in your vault.
  • Purge Deleted Data - permanently removes items you have deleted. This cannot be undone.
