Password Generator

LockYit includes a built-in password generator that creates strong, random passwords instantly.

Opening the Generator

On desktop

1. Open the Home screen
2. In the side navigation bar, click the Tools button (wrench icon) near the bottom
3. Click Password Generator in the menu that appears

On mobile and tablet

1. Open the Home screen
2. Tap the Tools icon (wrench) in the top-right corner of the app bar
3. Tap Password Generator

A strong password is generated automatically the moment the generator opens. Tap the refresh icon to generate another one.

While editing an item

When you are adding or editing an item that has a password field, tap the Generate icon (casino) next to the field to open the generator inline.

Customising your password

Tap the Generator Settings header to expand the options panel.

Length

Use the slider or type a number to set the password length:

• Minimum: 8 characters
• Recommended: 16-20 characters
• Maximum: 256 characters

Longer passwords are exponentially harder to crack. At least 16 characters is a good baseline for most accounts.

Character types

Toggle which character types to include:

Option	Characters	Example
a-z	Lowercase letters	hello
A-Z	Uppercase letters	HELLO
0-9	Numbers	12345
!@#	Symbols	@#$%!

tip

Enable all four types for the strongest passwords. Some sites restrict certain symbols - uncheck !@# if a site rejects the generated password.

Exclude Similar characters

Removes characters that look alike:

• 0 (zero) and O (letter O)
• 1 (one), l (lowercase L), and I (uppercase i)

Useful when you need to read or type the password by hand.

Exclude Ambiguous characters

Removes characters that can cause problems in some systems:

• Brackets: { } [ ] ( ) < >
• Quotes: ' " `

Password strength

The coloured bar and label below the password box show how strong the current password is, based on its entropy:

Colour	Label	What it means
Red	Very Weak	Too short or too few character types
Orange	Weak	Increase length or add more character types
Yellow	Medium	Acceptable, but could be stronger
Light Green	Strong	Good for most accounts
Green	Very Strong	Excellent - hard to crack

Using the generated password

Once you are happy with the password:

• Tap the copy icon to copy it to the clipboard and paste it wherever you need it
• If you opened the generator from a password field in the editor, tap Save Password to insert it directly into the field

Tap the refresh icon at any time to generate a fresh password with the same settings.
