Keep Your Documents With Your Items in LockYit 1.2
LockYit 1.2 adds Files: attach photos and documents to any item in your vault. The scan of your passport can live on your Passport item, the warranty PDF on your laptop, and a photo of your insurance card on your medical record. Everything stays encrypted on your devices, just like the rest of your vault.
Why Keep Files in Your Vault?
The details of a passport or an insurance policy are only half the story. When you need them, you usually need the document too: the scan a form asks you to upload, the receipt for a warranty claim, the card you show at a clinic. Until now those lived in a photo library or a downloads folder, unencrypted and hard to find.
With Files, the document sits with the item it belongs to, behind the same master password and biometric unlock.
Adding a File
You can add a file in whichever way fits the moment:
- Take a photo, for example of a card or a letter.
- Pick from your photo library.
- Choose any document, such as a PDF.
Use the paperclip on an item, or the Files panel at the bottom of an item. If you have the file first, the paperclip and camera buttons on the Home screen let you pick the item afterwards. Each file can be up to 25 MB, and an item can have as many files as you need.
For a full walkthrough, see the Files guide.
Private by Design
- Encrypted the moment you add it. Each file is encrypted on your device, and so is its name.
- Never on our servers. Files are stored on your devices only. They don't pass through LockYit's servers at any point.
- Viewed inside LockYit. Zoom, pan, rotate and go full screen on photos. PDFs and other documents open in the app of your choice.
Finding Items With Files
Items with files show a paperclip badge on the Home screen, and the Has files filter shows only those items, so the documents you keep are always a tap away.
On Your Other Devices, and With People You Trust
- With Local Sync on, files follow their items to your other devices over your own network. A large file that is interrupted carries on where it stopped the next time your devices connect.
- When you share an item, its files go with it. People with edit access can add, rename and delete files too.
- Devices still on LockYit 1.1 keep syncing as before; they just don't receive files until they update.
Included in Backups and Exports
Backups keep your files, still encrypted. Exports include them, unencrypted, in a files folder, and importing that export into LockYit attaches them to their items again.
Pair Files with Automatic Backup, also new in 1.2, and your documents have an encrypted copy in a folder you choose too.
Files is free for everyone in LockYit 1.2. Update to the latest version, open an item you care about, and add the document that goes with it.
