Try Local Sync in LockYit Version 1.0

Security focussed. Privacy centric.

LockYit 1.0 is here, and one of its headline features is Local Sync - a way to keep your own devices, like your phone and your laptop, in step over your local Wi-Fi network. No cloud server is ever involved. Here is everything you need to set it up.

How Local Sync Keeps Your Data Private

Local Sync works only when your devices are on the same Wi-Fi / local network and both are unlocked. Nothing is ever sent to the internet or stored on LockYit's servers, and all traffic between your devices is end-to-end encrypted (RSA-2048 + AES-256-GCM). Your master password and keys are never transmitted.

Because syncing is between your own devices, every device involved must be signed in to the same LockYit account.

Pairing Two Devices

You pair your devices once. After that, they recognise each other automatically whenever they are on the same network and unlocked.

  1. Make sure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi / local network and have LockYit open and unlocked.
  2. On both devices, open the Local Sync screen and turn it on with Enable Local Sync.
  3. In the My Devices section, tap Pair (the + button in the section header). The devices find each other automatically.
  4. On one device, choose the other from the discovered list and start pairing.
  5. A 6-digit code appears on the first device - enter it on the second to confirm.

Once paired, the devices appear in each other's My Devices list and begin syncing.

For a full walkthrough, see the Local Sync documentation.

Adding More Devices

You can sync as many of your own devices as you like - a phone, a tablet, and a laptop can all share the same vault. You do not have to pair every device with every other one. Each pairing connects two devices directly, but your vault converges across all of them, so to add a third device you just pair it with one device you have already set up.

See Setting up multiple devices for the details.

How Changes Travel

  • Instant on change - adding, editing, or deleting an item syncs to your online paired devices right away.
  • On reconnect / unlock - when a paired device comes back online, or you unlock the app, it syncs immediately.
  • Background safety-net - a periodic check catches anything missed, running more often after recent activity and relaxing when idle to save battery.
  • Pull to refresh - pull down on the Local Sync screen to run a full, two-way manual sync with every online paired device.

A Few Tips

  • Keep one device as your main device for adding and updating entries, to keep a clear source of truth.
  • Local Sync is not a backup. It keeps your live devices in step, but you should still take regular backups so you have restorable copies of your vault.
  • Both devices must be unlocked and on the same network for a sync to happen - there is no cloud relay in between.
