Setup Biometric Access on Supported Devices

Typing your master password every time you open LockYit is good for security, but it can slow you down when you just need to check something quickly. Biometric unlock lets you open your vault with your face or fingerprint while keeping your master password as the secure foundation underneath. Here is how it works and how to set it up.

What Biometric Unlock Does​

Biometric unlock is a convenience feature, not a replacement for your master password. Your vault is still encrypted with your master password, and biometrics simply provide a faster way to unlock it on a device you already control. Your master password is always available as the fallback if biometric authentication fails or is unavailable.

Because your master password never leaves your device, LockYit's zero-knowledge design stays fully intact - your biometrics only unlock what is already stored locally.

Supported Devices​

The type of biometric available depends on your device and operating system:

  • iPhone / iPad - Face ID or Touch ID
  • Mac - Touch ID (keyboard or trackpad sensor)
  • Android - Fingerprint, face recognition, or iris scan (varies by device)
  • Windows - Windows Hello (face recognition, fingerprint, or PIN)
  • Linux - Not supported

How to Enable Biometric Unlock​

  1. Open LockYit and go to Settings.
  2. Navigate to the Security tab.
  3. Toggle Biometric Unlock on.
  4. Authenticate with your biometric when prompted.
  5. You can now unlock your vault with biometrics.

How to Disable Biometric Unlock​

If you no longer want to use biometrics on a device - for example, on a shared or work machine:

  1. Go to Settings → Security.
  2. Toggle Biometric Unlock off.
  3. Enter your master password to confirm.

A Few Tips​

  • Only enable it on devices you personally control. Anyone whose biometric is registered on the device could unlock your vault.
  • Never forget your master password. Biometrics can fail or be reset by the operating system, and your master password is the only true key to your data. See Do Not Forget Your Master Password.
