v1.3.1

What's New

LockYit 1.3.1 gives your master password stronger protection, and it makes the calculation when you unlock faster. A new account must now verify its email address before you can use it. It shows your upcoming events after you log in, opens the QR code scanner at once for a new OTP item, shows which device made each backup, and fixes items that showed no Files. It also fixes a security problem in internet connections on Android, Windows and Linux. After you sign in with 1.3.1, update LockYit on all your devices. See Update all your devices.

Stronger protection for your master password

  • Argon2id - LockYit now uses Argon2id to make the keys of your vault and your sign-in from your master password. Argon2id is a modern method that makes your encryption more secure. Read more.
  • Bound to your email address - The calculation also uses your email address. If our server data is ever breached, this makes the data of your account much more difficult to decrypt. Your vault items are not affected, because they are not on our server. They stay encrypted on your devices.
  • Nothing to do - Your account moves to the new protection at your first sign-in with 1.3.1. Your master password does not change.

Email verification is now required

  • No skip - After you create an account, you must verify your email address before you can use LockYit. The Skip for now button is removed. Read more.
  • 1 hour to verify - A new account has 1 hour to verify its email address. The verification screen shows the time that is left. If you do not verify in time, LockYit removes the account and its data from the device, and you sign up again. At that time, you have not saved items in your vault yet.
  • Accounts from earlier versions - If you skipped verification in an earlier version, LockYit asks you to verify after you sign in with 1.3.1. These accounts have no time limit.
  • New screen - The verification screen has a new layout for phones, tablets and computers. If LockYit cannot open an email app, Contact support shows our support address, and you can copy it.

Safer internet connections on Android, Windows and Linux

  • Security fix - Some certificates of the certificate authority eMudhra were found to be compromised. With these certificates, an attacker on your network could pretend to be a website, for example the LockYit server. LockYit 1.3.1 is built with a new version of Flutter and Dart that does not trust these certificates.
  • Updated certificate list on Android - On Android 14 and later, LockYit now uses the list of trusted certificates that Google Play system updates keep current.
  • iPhone, iPad and Mac - These devices were not affected. They check certificates with the Apple system.

Faster unlock

  • The key calculation when you unlock is 4 to 5 times faster than in 1.3.0. On a phone from 2019, it now takes about half a second, not 3 seconds.

Upcoming Events

  • After you log in - LockYit shows the task due dates, the dates on your items and the birthdays that come soon, in one list. It opens each time that you log in, with or without an internet connection. It does not open again when you unlock. Select Do not show again today to stop it until tomorrow. Read more.
  • Alert me before events - One setting replaces Advance Reminders and Days Ahead: Never, or 1, 3, 7, 14 or 31 days before. The default is 7 days. You can change it in the dialog or in Settings > Appearance. Your old choice is kept.
  • More context - Each row shows the label of the date, or the task list and the status of the task. You can change the status of a task in the dialog. A task stays in the list when you complete it, so the list also shows what you did recently.
  • Birthdays - Every birthday now shows in the list. Before, a birthday with No reminder (the default) never showed. The birthday field is now Alert me, and it makes a birthday show earlier.
  • Tasks - The Reminder field of tasks is removed. Use the Due Date. A reminder from an older version stays in the task, but LockYit does not use it.
  • The button on the home screen is now Events. The dialog is larger on all devices.

OTP setup

  • Scanner first - + Add OTP, or a new item of the type OTP, opens the QR code scanner with the camera on. If you close it, the editor shows the item. On Windows and Linux, the dialog opens on Upload Image. Read more.
  • Scan QR Code button - The OTP row in the editor has a Scan QR Code button, so you can scan again. For an item that has a setup key, the button is Rescan QR Code, and LockYit asks you before it replaces the key.
  • Fix - An OTP that you add on the OTP screen now also shows in the main list at once.

Editing items

  • Date pickers - Tap an empty Date, Time or Date & Time field, and its picker opens at once.
  • Fix - A label that you renamed on a built-in field, for example Username, now stays as you saved it.

Backups

  • Which device - Each backup shows the device that made it, with its device code. When your backup folder has backups from more than one device, Show backups from shows the backups of one device. Backups from before 1.3.1 show as Unknown device. Read more.
  • Details - The info button on a backup shows when it was made, the device, the LockYit version, the items and files, the size and the file name. The list itself shows only the date, the device and the size.
  • Delete - You can delete any backup. LockYit asks you first. When you delete the last backup of a device that you no longer use, LockYit also deletes the backup folder of that device. Read more.
  • Do Not Delete - Mark a backup Do Not Delete, and LockYit keeps it until you turn this off. Read more.
  • One backup for each day and each week - LockYit keeps the 5 most recent backups, plus the newest backup of each day for a week and of each week for a month. Days and weeks are now calendar days and weeks, so you see one backup for each date. Each device keeps its own backups.
  • Why the list could be long - When you clear LockYit's data on a device, the device starts a new set of backups. The earlier set stays in the folder, and nothing tidies it. Now you can see these sets as separate devices and delete them.

Restore a backup only on the same or a newer version

A backup can have data that an older version of LockYit cannot read. Restore a backup only on a device with the same version of LockYit, or a newer version.

  • From 1.3.1, LockYit does not restore a backup from a newer version. The backup shows Needs a newer version of LockYit, and Restore Backup is not available until you update LockYit.
  • Versions before 1.3.1 do not do this check. For example, a backup from 1.3 restored with 1.2 can make some items unreadable on that device. Update the device first.

Fixes

  • Items that showed no Files - An item that this device could not read (for example, after the restore that is described above) showed blank fields and no Files panel. Its Files and its sharing now show. A notice tells you to sync, or to edit and save the item on another device that shows it correctly. Edit is not available on that item, so it cannot replace the good version on your other devices.

Update all your devices

After you sign in with 1.3.1 on one device, your account uses the new protection. Your other devices then need 1.3.1 to sign in. Until you update a device, it still opens your vault without an internet connection. When it must sign in again, it asks you to update.
